NOTARIZATIONS FOR ADOPTING FAMILIES AND BIRTH PARENTS!
All parties needing notarization must generally be physically present with you at the appointment for the act to be valid.
You will need to bring an acceptable forms of ID, your UNSIGNED document(s), and witnesses, if required. In North Dakota acceptable forms of ID are: a driver's license, passport, or other state-approved ID. Your ID must be current and valid.
The document must be fully filled out before the appointment and left UNSIGNED. A notary cannot notarize an incomplete document. A notary is not permitted to fill in documents as it is considered unlawful practice of law.
Tell the notary the number of documents to be notarized, the number of signers, and the location the signing will take place.
In North Dakota a notary may charge $5.00 for each notary stamp placed on your document. In addition, a reasonable travel fee can be charged. At the notary's discretion, a notary can set fees based upon the type or location of an appointment.
Kosak Mobile Notary accepts cash or Venmo payments.
The two most common notarization types are an Acknowledgment or a Jurat. A notary is not permitted to select the type of notarization. If your document already contains the notary language you will not be asked that question. However, if you are signing a document without notary verbiage you will need to tell the notary what type of notary certificate you need attached.
Appointment times range from 15 minutes to over an hour. It depends on how prepared you are for your appointment, the number of documents being notarized, and the number of people present who are signing the document(s).
In most instances, the notary cannot sign as both a notary and witness. If a witness is required for your document, please make arrangements to have a friend or coworker present to act as a witness. Your witness cannot be named in the document and cannot benefit from the transaction you are entering into by signing the document. Witnesses must be impartial. If you do not have someone who can act as a witness, please let us know and arrangements may be made for the notary to bring a witness. There is an additional charge.
